The Mother Road

The songs, lore, and movies make ROUTE 66 the perfect destination in Arizona. Cruise on over to the I-40 for 163 miles and 2 hours of the most impressive scenery around. There are so many things to do and places to stop on this famous road.

  • Petrified Forest National Park-for a $20.00 park admission you can see fossils that are over 200 million years old and visit the beautiful Painted Desert
  • Flagstaff-A Mountain town that has everything a mountain town can have. From dining to shopping and everything in between, it’s the perfect place to wind down or party it up.

Tucson

The name is closely tied to Hollywood, from movies to cowboy lore and breathtaking scenery this 123-mile, 4-hour ride is the best way to experience the old west.

  • Pima Air and Space Museum-This museum houses over 300 aircraft over 80 acres of campus and activities the whole family can enjoy.
  • Santa Catalina’s Mountains-6000 foot plus feet in elevation- The most prominent mountains range in the Tucson area and it has the highest elevation at 9, 157 feet. A motorcyclist’s dream!

Tortilla Flat

Found in the Superstition Mountains this 50-mile, 2.5 hours ride starts at the famous Apache Trail. Beautiful scenery and well-maintained roads make this a great ride, although be cautioned there are hairpin turns, corners, and winding roads. This ride is better suited for an advanced motorcyclist.

  • Goldfield Ghost Town and Mine-take a tour through this authentic ghost town, pan for gold and visit Main Street to get a feel for the old days.
  • Canyon Lake- A great place to stretch your legs and take some great photos.

Mesa-Globe-Punkin Center Loop

This 204-mile loop Will take you roughly 4 hours, and will provide you with breathtaking scenery, lots of camping opportunities, and walks along the lakeshore.

  • Roosevelt Lake-A man-made reservoir from Roosevelt Damn with lots of camping and outdoor activities
  • Tonto National Monument-This is an archaeological site from the historic Salado culture from over 800 years ago.

Prescot, Jerome, Sedona Route

This is an endurance ride at 295 miles and approximately 6 hours on the bike. Marvel at what many consider the most beautiful scenic rides in Arizona. From the red rocked Sedona to the forests of pine trees, it will be worth the 6-hour ride just to say that you did it.

  • Smokie Museum- Native American art, culture, history, and artifacts
  • Tlaquepaque Outdoor Market - held in Sedona, a crafter, shopper, foodies delight.

Grand Canyon

Let’s save the best for last! With over 600 miles and 13 hours of riding this one is not for the faint of heart. A motorcyclist’s dream ride would have to be the Grand Canyon, one of the United States’ famous landmarks, rich in history and culture. There is probably no better way to soak in the beauty of the Grand Canyon than on your motorcycle.

There is so much to see that it’s impossible to cover it all in one article, but my advice is to plan to stay for a couple of days. Whether you’re roughing it in a tent or being pampered in a hotel make sure you bring a backpack, hiking boots, a great camera, and cold water. This will for sure be a ride of a lifetime.
