I'm a Uber Black driver; does VOOM Rideshare Insurance provide coverage for this service?

VOOM Rideshare Insurance does not cover Uber Black services. For Uber Black, drivers are required to have commercial insurance similar to what is needed for taxis, as our policy does not extend to periods 2 and 3 of rideshare driving that Uber Black entails.

What does Collision cover?

How does VOOM work?

With VOOM, you only pay for the miles you drive plus a low monthly base rate.

To get started, you send us a photo of your odometer and we calculate the miles .  We add those miles at your per-mile rate to your base rate, and that’s what you pay. It really is that simple.

Here is an example - John has a base rate of $15 and a per mile rate of $0.09. He rode 100 miles this month, so his monthly total is $24

What is Uninsured Motor Vehicle Coverage?

By paying a premium for uninsured motorist coverage for the motorcycle listed on your policy, this coverage will pay damages for bodily injury which any insured is legally entitled to recover from the owner or operator of an uninsured motor vehicle. An uninsured motor vehicle means that the driver does not have coverage to pay  for damages to others. In some cases the uninsured driver will pay out of pocket, but this is not the standard. For this reason, you can opt to protect yourself from such situations and file a claim through your policy. For this coverage to take effect, the bodily injury must be caused by an accident and arise out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of the uninsured motor vehicle.

What is the difference between Uninsured Motorists-Bodily Injury and Underinsured Motorists - Bodily Injury?

An uninsured motorist is one that does not carry insurance.

An underinsured motorist is one that does not carry enough insurance.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily injury coverage provides that if you suffer bodily injury, sickness, disease, or death resulting from an accident with a hit-and-run driver or a person who does not carry liability insurance (uninsured), or does not carry sufficient limits of liability insurance (underinsured), and if that person is at fault, you may make a claim against your own insurance company for damages rather than against the uninsured/underinsured motorist.

Can my coverage be paused if I stop using my motorcycle for the winter, (or for any other reason)?

This is exactly what per-mile insurance is for!

While your policy cannot be paused, if you don’t ride, you do not pay the per mile rate, and you have the option of removing any coverages that you are not using, (and that are not mandated by the state or a lienholder) - during that period of time.

Coverages

While I’m “off the clock”, why would I choose VOOM over another personal auto insurance policy?

With a traditional car insurance policy, when the app is offline, you will always pay a “one size fits all” price, regardless if you are not driving for personal use or if you are driving for Uber Lyft, et al. With VOOM, you will pay only for the miles driven during your personal use.

Coverages

Who is the underwriting authority?

All VOOM policies are underwritten by Markel Insurance Company.

About VOOM

Do you cover non-competition track usage such as training classes or track days?

Our policy specifically excludes any losses that arise from/at an organized event, which would include things like training courses or other track events. However, if you are riding your bike at a track on your own and not part of any event that is taking place, coverage could still be provided.

Coverages

What payment methods can I use to purchase a policy?

VOOM policies can be purchased online with a credit card or by ACH payment.

Our payment provider, Stripe, accepts most major credit cards including American Express, Visa, Discovery, and Master Card.

Policy Management and Billing

Will I be covered automatically every month? Or do I need to do something in order to continue the coverage every month?

The credit card on file will be billed, and coverage will be continued automatically. You can choose to send a new odometer image every month in order to keep the rate based on your mileage. If not, each month you will be charged based on a default mileage. For more information - How will I be charged if I forget to upload my odometer image?

Renewal will be done on an annual basis.

Policy Management and Billing

Can the VOOM Insurance policy replace my current personal auto policy?

Yes, the VOOM policy is intended to replace your existing personal auto policy, it covers both your personal use up to the policy limits, as well as other gaps that arise from your Gig work that most traditional policies don't cover.

About VOOM

How can VOOM help me save on the rideshare platforms' high deductibles in a case of a claim?

You will be covered by the rideshare platform, and in addition VOOM’s policy will provide a deductible cap coverage reducing your out of pocket expenses for the platform's deductible ($2,500)

Coverages

How will I be charged if I forget to upload my odometer image?

You will receive a reminder by email and text message, with a link to upload your updated odometer photo. After uploading, you will be charged according to the miles you rode!

If we do not receive your photo within 5 days, you will be charged according to a predefined default mileage of up to 500 miles for that month.

No worries though!  This default mileage will be used as a credit for the following months if you actually rode less!

For example, Steve Jones has a policy with an $8 fixed rate and 10c per mile rate.

If Steve rides 100 miles in a particular month, after sending in his odometer reading he will be charged $18

What happens if Steve doesn’t upload his odometer?? He’ll pay a default mileage of 500 miles, meaning he will be charged $58. When he uploads his odometer in the following months, he will not pay for the first 500 miles that have already been paid for.
